The Combined Bothan Clans, usually referred to as the Bothan Council is the primary political body of Bothan Space. It consists of representatives of the currently 608 registered clans, and is led by the Bothan First Secretary, who is elected to serve as the Council's chairman and chief for a one-year term.

Prior to the Galactic Civil War, the Bothan Council was one of many aspects of government, but under Imperial rule it assumed control of all executive and legislative branches, with the exception of the Bothan Diplomatic Corps, and retains most of that power as part of the Alliance of Free Planets. The appointment of the Bothan representatives to the Alliance Senate is one of the few decisions that the First Secretary is not responsible for, often leading to friction between the Senator and the First Secretary.

The headquarters of the Bothan Council is in the Combined Clans Center Building, located near the Merchant's Square in Drev'starn.


The headquarters for the Alliance of Free Planets, formerly the Rebel Alliance. Bothawui is home to all branches of the Alliance military and intelligence services, as well as the seat of the Senate. It is also a haven for those who wish to do business in the Alliance, legal or otherwise.
