The Van-Derveld Family

Post-reset

Following the board wide reset, only two characters of the Van-Derveld family remain: Grace Van-Derveld and Vega Van-Derveld. The Van-Dervelds are a staunchly Imperial family, of noble blood. It is expected that each new generation of the family attend the Corulag Academy and enlist in either the Imperial Navy or the Imperial Army. Both Grace and Vega did this, though with varying degrees of success. Vega spent time as a Stormtrooper before cannibalizing his patrol group while stranded on Hoth. Grace's progress was sabotaged, resulting in her becoming an undercover agent for The Rebel Alliance.

Lupine Heritage

Once a proud member of the Losstarot strain of Lupine, this Greater House succumbed to the consequences of uncontrolled inbreeding. Only with other Lupines could children be had, and many belonging to the different Greater Houses were overcome by inbred madness. In a trend that began with House Van-Derveld, this inbreeding resulted not only in madness, but in the offspring losing the ability to Change at all. As such the House almost completely died out, and any current Van-Dervelds have no memories of their Lupine heritage.

Pre-Reset

The Van-Dervelds, one of SWFans largest and most notorious families, were originally created in December 2000 by role player Vega Van-Derveld (also known as Dasquian Belargic). In its beginnings, the family was relatively small and confined to back story for the Vega character. As time went on, however, the number of Van-Dervelds grew, as Vega located lost siblings and fathered his own children. Many of these Van-Dervelds became part of The Sith Empire. The family became infamous for their decadence, arrogance and complete lack of morals – with Vega being at the forefront of this depravity, having stooped so low as to sleep with his own daughter. The family originally hailed from the moon Figaro Favoura VII, or the “Schwartzweld”, where they were ostracized from the community at large, feared for their brutal nature. In their final incarnation, they – Vega, Daiquiri, Darius and Katina - lived on the planet Fascinataru, where they oversaw a feudal dictatorship, from Castle Volfstadt.

"Lupines"

Although the Van-Dervelds were first written as being human, Vega later decided to change this. The Lupines were a race of lycanthropes – humans able to transform into wolves. The species was influenced by the Garou (of White Wolf), and more predominantly by the werewolves found in Terry Pratchett's novel “The Fifth Elephant”. Only members of the Van-Derveld family were permitted to play character of this race, though some exceptions were made. (See the Lupine article for Lupines in the Post-Reset timeline.)
