The DP37 Light Frigate is a combination of an anti-starfighter screening vessel, and an attack vessel to destroy enemy corvettes and frigates.

Design
The DP37 Heavy Gunship was the second in line of the few dedicated warships designs produced by Corellian Engineering Corporation. Longer than its predecessor, the DP20 Gunship, it is as fast and carries heavier firepower. One could class this vessel more as a light frigate instead of a gunship. The DP37 did not find much market demand, as the DP20 was much cheaper and fitted the same role, though the DP37 replaced much of the crew with droids for maintenance and a more sophisticated targeting system that could be controlled directly from the bridge.
The DP37 was equipped with sixteen turbolaser cannons placed in banks of four. Two banks on the prow and two amidships. Twelve quad laser cannon turrets were placed on the dorsal and ventral hull for anti-fighter duty. Four heavy assault missile tubes were placed amidships three port and three starboard. A small hanger on the ventral hull can house two shuttles for boarding and transport to and from the ship.
History
The DP37, while more powerful than the smaller DP20, did not catch on as a replacement for its smaller cousin. Price and poor maneuverability plagued the DP37 design. A few of these ships were purchased by independent commercial organizations for escorting convoys. Some feel into rebel hands where they are used as hit and run vessels for commerce raiding.
