Design

While they are not capable of taking on large warships, these ships are more than adequate for taking on most freighters or starfighters. For boarding operations, the Corvette carries a Stormtrooper platoon. Six double turbolaser cannons make up the main armament of the Light Corvette.

History

The Imperial Customs Office employs a force of patrol vessels that operate independently from the Imperial Navy in order to spare the Imperial government the expense of assigning ships of the line to monitor shipping, interdict piracy, and perform search-and-rescue operations. The Rendili StarDrive Light Corvette is the backbone of this force. It is often called the Imperial Customs Corvette for this very reason. Systems with an Imperial Customs branch generally have at least one of these vessels, and more important systems have several.

Rendili StarDrive sells the Light Corvette to the Imperial Customs Office by a near-exclusive contract, but smaller governmental organizations, can acquire the light corvette for system patrol and defense as well. The utility and efficiency of these craft also creates a demand from less legal organizations. Pirates often make an effort to capture light corvettes, and smaller shipbuilding operations, such as those at shadowports, manufacture copies of the design.
