The CD-710-class Heavy Destroyer' somtimes called the Corellian Destroyer' was a medium sized combat vessel used by the Corellian Navy for defense of the Corellian Sector.

Design

One of the mainstays of CorNav Defense Fleet, the CD-710 Heavy Destroyers were intended only for the protection of the Corellian Sector and outfitted with limited hyperdrives and nav computers Four Heavy Double Turbolaser turrets were located amidshps for heavy ship to ship engagments and bombardments. Ten double turbolaser turrets run along the ventral and Dorsal hull on each flank forward of the heavy batteries. The Prow houses 12 Ion Cannons For disabling small vessels and fighters. Six heavy assault missile tubes' three port and three starboard' are set just forward of the turbolaser batteries. Storage for sixty Heavy Missiles is set in a double armored case storage between the port and starboard launchers. Two tractor beam projectors set just forward of the small hanger work to assist with fighter recovery and small craft capture. A small hanger is set along the axis of the ventral hull housing thirty six fighters and six shuttles. A large Command Superstructure sits aft of the weapons and forward of the three large Engines.

History

Built for the defense of Corellia and the Corellian Sector, They protected the sector from CIS attacks during the Clone Wars successfully standing up to Recusant Light Destroyer, and Providence Destroyer. When the Republic moved to nationalize all of the Home Fleets, the CD-710s were fitted with more standard hyperdrives and nav computers. A number of the ships were sent to almost all theatres of the war. Production of the CD-710 destroyer continued throughout the Clone Wars, and the first few years of the Imperial era, until orders for the ships began to dry up in favour of newer designs by more Imperial-friendly corporations.
