| Born on the frigid world of Arkania, Salemescro was the first and only son of geneticists Zoriaro and Hariolet Avesca. Upon being accepted by the Jedi Council as a youngling of the Order, the boy was first assigned to be trained by Serena Laran but a clash of personalities instead lead to A'na Eldhil accepting Salemescro as her Padawan learner. Following the collapse of the Jedi Order and the Republic, he traveled for a short time with his Master and her younger apprentice, Lilaena De'Ville. As a teenager, Salem slipped free from A'na and decided to explore the Galaxy on his own. While travelling under the alias of Glace Kilgannon, he began to experiment with the Dark Side of the Force and soon discovered the power that it held.
Years later, Salem became the Prime Minister of Onderon. He began his political career on Onderon as an adviser to Queen Adraudia Basille, garnering favor from the Queen by providing invaluable assistance in the planets governance. To the public of Ondeorn, Ave appeared politically astute, albeit arrogant (as is typically the case with his species). In private, however, he preferred the moniker of Darth Callidus. Able to seduce the Queen into becoming his apprentice, with promises of providing a better future for her people, the Sith Lord had Onderon in an iron grip. Alongside the military-minded Dalamar DeSang, General and Commander of the Onderonian Army, Ave helped revolutionize the way that Iziz City was run and even ushered in a new era over peace with the signing of treaties between the formerly hostile local Mandalorian clans and the Royal Court. Later, he orchestrated an economic and naval alliance between Onderon and the Queen Mother Ishara of The Hapes Consortium, by Onderon's royal ward Razielle Shadana to the Hapan Prince.
Following the death of Queen Mother Ishara, the disappearance of Tristan Alastor and his sister, the Hapan Princess, rulership of The Hapes Consortium fell to Tristan's wife, Razielle. By placing his apprentice in the dark arts on the throne of the Consortium, Ave had gained access to a vast navy and a powerful political bargaining chip. He approached The Rebel Alliance - using his former ties to the Jedi Order to establish a connection with them - and soon was brokering to bring the Hapes-Onderon coalition into the newly developing Alliance of Free Planets.
