Kyp and his brother Anton form the core of a small company called Grenples Droids, Inc., which specializes in the construction of fine custom droids and droid modifications. Kyp is the face of Grenples Droids, handling the sales and advertising end of things. He’s an expert at reading people and their intentions and ruthlessly exploits the ability to further his own and the company’s goals. Kyp has few real friends; he sees them as nothing but potential liabilities. Additionally, those that spend too much time around him tend to come away with a slightly uncomfortable greasy feeling.
Kyp doesn’t really mind the Empire. As far as he sees it, it keeps the place pretty safe and, as long as he keeps his nose clean, stays out of his business. But don't get any crazy ideas. It's not like he's going to fight for it or anything.

| Kyp and his older brother were born to a pair of humble industrial workers on the outskirts of The Works, one of Coruscant's defunct manufacturing districts. Kyp found his calling hustling on the streets, grifting and running confidence schemes in the Services Sector. The family's fortunes turned around when the brothers came of age. Between the money he was bringing in and the income Anton was providing, thanks to his smarts and hard work at a prestigious engineering consulting firm, they were eventually able to move to a nicer, safer residential sector.
Kyp assembled a small team of like-minded individuals. Together, they were able to pull off larger and more daring jobs, pulling in disgusting amounts of credits and living the sweet life. Things went sour for Kyp a few days after his 18th birthday, when his tried to con a wealthy industrialist. He was betrayed by a member of his team, and the plan fell apart' Kyp found himself in the custody of the Coruscant Security Force and, before long, serving a 15 year sentence in prison. Once incarcerated, he transformed himself - becoming the model prisoner. Thanks to his good behavior and lack of any violent criminal history, he was allowed to walk after serving just over 5 years.
Back outside, he turned over a new leaf. A little more wary, he found it hard to trust anyone else, the only exception being his family, who welcomed him back with opened arms. He moved in with his older brother and enlisted Anton in an attempt to "You know, go legit." Together, the two leveraged Kyp's skills at manipulating people and Anton's mechanical genius to start a small droid repair shop on the side. The two worked well together and the shop's business boomed thanks to excellent word of mouth. They expanded their focus to include customizations and upgrade work. Before long, the income from the shop and the time investment it demanded was sufficient for Anton to quit his day job. By 2 ABY, the two were selling high-end droids of their own designs.
Things turned south around 7 ABY. Kyp's mounting gambling debts and a downturn in business due to some faults in one of their service droid designs led to financial troubles. Kyp turned to loan sharks to keep the shop afloat, and one he was unable to pay, they took something for collateral - his brother.
