Karl Valten is the current Grand Inquisitor of the The Galactic Empire the head of the Office of the Inquisitoriate. He is also the founder of the Inquisitorial terror squad known as Project Nightmare

The Beginnings of the Nightmare

Karl Valten hones his combat skills.

At the front of the ragged defenders stands a quartet of valiant figures, their faces a mask of resigned acceptance. A tear rolls down the cheek of one, a breaking heart mourning the memory of a bygone era. With laser fire streaking around, they raise their arms as one….and ignite their lightsabers. And rushing towards them, a phalanx of Inquisitorial troopers daring the killing fields.... ....Somewhere in the horde, a young Karl Valten grips his rifle and joins in the cacophony. He vaults over the hull of a smoking vehicle smashing into a terrified rebel. A spray of crimson splatters across the overturned repulsor-car and a gurgling body thumps to the ground. His helmeted gaze stares into tearing eyes, mercilessly watching the life blood drain from a young man barely out of his teens. With blood dripping from his gun’s bayonet, young Karl turns to the next victim. Similar scenes play out on the steps of the administration building. Inquisitorial grunts holding off the knats so that the Inquisitors may close with the adepts unscathed.... ...."We committed atrocities not even the Emperor would dare reveal, damning our souls so that the weak-minded citizens of the galaxy would be allowed the comfort of order and the bliss of ignorance"

So began Karl Valten's military rise. Events that would shape and solidify the young man's convictions in that by diligently serving the Office of the Inquisitoriate, he was serving the Empire and upholding its precepts in a galaxy devoid of order and desperate for direction.

Well-versed in the Book of Indoctinations Inquisitor Valten perfomed his duty with a singular focus. It was this same personal discipline that saw him rise quickly above his peers and placed him at the helm of an elite special Branch of the Imperial Navy, The Project Nightmare.

The Nightmares are a special squad of Inquisitors, hand picked for their committment and outstanding skills of interrogation and counter-espionage expertise. A shadow unit, who exercised almost unlimited freedom in the execution of their duty, becoming the most feared members of the Imperial elite. A terror squad, responsible for the near complete eradication of force-users and their suspected allies.
